Presenting in Las Vegas

Sitting in the Cupertino Inn in Cupertino, California and reflecting on the last couple of days.

Was in Las Vegas for my first sales kick off meeting. They set us up at the Hard Rock Hotel which is a little way from the strip.

I was asked to give a presentation to the US sales team. I've heard that on average people have a stronger fear of public speaking than death and I believe it.

I worked and rehearsed this presentation more than any previous one.

The night before walked through with other team members and based on feedback significantly streamlined.

Next morning had to rush through it because we were behind schedule.

Despite all that I feel the presentation went well and actually received compliments from co-workers I hadn't met before. other than practice, practice, practice, for me the key is in the opening to connect with the audience which at the same time helps remove nervousness.

If you were to do it again, what would you do differently?

That was the main question for a study by a social psychologist.

He asked 50 people 95 years or older, if they had the chance to live life again, what would they do differently.

Although responses were varied patterns emerged. These common responses were:

1. Reflect more.

2. Take more risks.

3. Leave a legacy.

Korea Holidays '05

Just returned from Korea for the holidays. Anna's first trip abroad.

It was an especially cold winter so must of the time was spent inside.

Still managed to see friends and take Griffon skiing at a place called Muju Resort in Taejon (about 2 hours from Seoul). While our friend's husband went skiing and we rented skis for Griffon and pushed him around near the base.

He did quite well and until the ski patrol told us to stop I was pushing him up the hill a short ways and let him cruise down by himself.

We also ended up wandering around Insadong which has changed a lot.

Of course, the whole time was spent eating delicious Korean food.
